“Janet Jackson Live Tampa, Florida December 4, 2011”

From Dusty Mendoza

I think the thing that most impresses me most about Janet Jackson, is the dancer. Janet dancing on stage is truly a pleasure and watching her dance in a music video the same thing. She is not someone who typically sits on a stool, or stands in front of a microphone and just sings. She sings obviously, but she’s usually on the move as she’s singing and having to perform the song as well. Her own music and the dance routine at the same time.

And then you combine the great body and the great shape that she’s always in and those classic Levi’s black denim jeans with the boots and t-shirt or leather jacket and get to see her move in that outfit and showing everyone what she has to work with (so to speak) and you have one of the most entertaining and sexiest performers you’ll ever see. Even if you’re not crazy for her music, but perhaps crazy for great entertainment and sexy yet professionally well-done entertainment.

Janet Jackson - Black Cat (Official Video)

“Janet Jackson – Black Cat (Official Video) Music video by Janet Jackson performing Black Cat. (C) 1989 A&M Records”

From Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation I believe is her best album. But if I had to name one of her songs that’s better than any of her other Rhythm Nation songs, it’s Black Cat that came out in early 1990 and produced in 1989. It’s a great classic rock song performed with an R&B flavor and style that only an R&B diva like Janet Jackson could do.

This is one of my favorite classic rock songs and I’m a big classic rock fan (not just physically) and one reason why it is one of my favorite classic rocks, is because of the singer. And Janet Jackson simply nailed this song and I don’t know anyone that could’ve done a better job of singing this song other than maybe Tina Turner.

And another reason why this is one of my favorite classic rock songs, is because it’s sung by someone who is not a classic rock singer, at least full-time. Janet is primarily a rhythm and blues singer and does a great job. But here she shows her great versatility.

I think the really great talented singers can sing more than just one style of music. Tina Turner would be a great example of that who is both a rhythm and blues and classic rock singer and also combines those two great sounds into blues rock. Eric Clapton and Dave Matthews does the same thing and I’m big fans of both.

Janet with Black Cat becomes a rock star in the real sense. Not in the pop culture sense of someone considered awesome or cool. But someone who is a great singer rock singer. Who has great material and delivers it beautifully.
